Owners & Co-Founder
With 30 years of award-winning and leadership experience in the restaurant industry, Ed has focused his passion for food and restaurant development in the creation of Cheryl’s On 12th. Early in his career, Ed was Vice President of Operations & Food and Beverage for TGI Fridays, which was well known at the time for creative food innovation in the restaurant industry. Ed brought the young chain to new markets across the nation, later becoming Vice President of Concept Development, helping create new concepts and menus for TGI Fridays. Ed left TGI Fridays in 1990 to take a position as Vice President of Operations & Concept Development for Rusty Pelican Restaurants, where he operated fine dining seafood and steakhouse restaurants. Opting later for restaurant ownership, Ed left the corporate world in 1993 and with some partners became a Franchisee of Applebee’s, opening 16 Applebee’s units in Oregon, Washington and Northern California. Ed sold his interest in Applebee’s in 1999 to become a franchisee of Baja Fresh Mexican Grill. Introducing the Baja Fresh concept to the Pacific Northwest market, Ed and his wife Cheryl opened 23 locations between 1999 and 2007. In 2003 Ed was named Restaurateur of the Year by the Oregon Restaurant Association. In 2008 Ed became President & CEO of The Counter, a full-service, custom-build burger concept based in Southern California. That year, The Counter was the National Restaurant Association’s Hot Concept Winner. During his tenure, The Counter expanded from 5 units to 28. Ed’s experience in food and beverage along with his business acumen and experience in emerging brands paved the way for his newest role as co-founder and co-owner of Cheryl’s on 12th.
Owner & Co-Founder
With more than 30 years of restaurant industry experience, Cheryl has mastered every aspect of the business—including head waitress, certified master mixologist, manager, director of training, and owner. Cheryl’s great love for people and overwhelming talent for Customer Service combined with her professional talent and experience has ensured her success in every endeavor. Joining TGI Fridays in 1979, Cheryl worked her way up to Team Leader of New Store Openings, responsible for leading the opening teams for more than 50 TGI Fridays nationally and internationally. After holding similar positions with Stanford’s Restaurants and Applebees, Cheryl teamed with husband Ed Casey in 1999 to develop a Baja Fresh Mexican Grill franchise in the Pacific Northwest. Together the Casey’s owned and operated 23 Baja Fresh locations. In 2005, Cheryl and Ed founded As Good As It Gets Catering, focusing on corporate breakfasts, lunches, and events as well as private events. Operating out of one of their existing kitchens, the catering company ramped up quickly and soon outgrew the space. This was the genesis of Cheryl’s On 12th, which was built both to house the catering company and to develop a restaurant concept that is a reflection Ed and Cheryl’s combined experience in the industry. The result is a beautiful space containing a restaurant with a diverse menu of signature dishes and great service, an espresso bar featuring Portland Roasting Coffee, full bar service and a boutique market. Cheryl and Ed operate the restaurant and catering company personally, come introduce yourselves, they love to meet new guests!
